Barmouth Resort Improvement Group have been working hard behind the scenes to try and make sure all the projects are achieved successfully and to the highest standards possible.

Some things appear to be slow due to paper work, company deadlines, and liasing with relevent bodies and individuals etc, however it is all necessary to provide the very best professional outcomes and to ensure that we deliver on our promises.

We understand that in some cases very little is known about the progress we have made, so we have decided to give everyone the chance to check this page on a regular basis to see where we are.

"Walkabout"

We were invited on a "walkabout" around Barmouth by Peter Simpson, the Project Manager for "A Quality Environment".  Along with us were representatives from Gwynedd Council, Barmouth Town Council, North Wales Police, Keep Wales Tidy and Communities First.

The aim was to highlight areas that needed attention and improving, and the "walkabout" gave us the opportunity to show him the areas of neglect, and places that were in need of immediate attention, and those places that would benefit from a long term strategy.

Overall it was a succesfull afternoon and we look forward to seeing the benefits of this co-operation soon.

Volunteers

In recent weeks we have had the kind help from Justin Gurney and Albert Temple, who have been doing some gardening maintenance around the town for us.  We would like to thank them for the work they have done and applaud there sense of community spirit.

A mention must go to Endevour Guest House who have helped in the weeding as well, and to the Harbour Master Staff for their contribution in the last week along the Promenade.
If you would like to help on some of the projects or in general, please go to Dave Morris at L & L DIY Centre in Barmouth, where you can be put in his little book for when the big work begins.

Also, please feel free to get the weeds out of the Palm Trees or anywhere really.  Every little helps.

BRIG Centenary Club

We have now started a Centenary Club consisting of 100 people who have the opportunity to win a prize every month, and twice a year a massive prize of £500, as well as other cash prizes.  The numbers and the winners will be named below.

Winning Numbers for July are;

First Prize of £50 = Number 78
Second Prize of £25 = Number 61
Third Prize of £10 = Number 64

The Draw was done on the 31st July at 1.30pm at the Doctors Surgery by Paula the Receptionist.

Cambrian News

We have been in the Cambrian News in recent weeks regarding the work that we have done.  Even though these have been more negative than positive, we still appreciate the opinions of those in the town.

The concerns about the lighting of Barmouth Bridge have been addressed directly to the person who who expressed an interest in the project. You can read more about the Barmouth Bridge Illumination Project in the Planned Project Page on this Web Site.

The second letter, more of a general concern of the state of the town, was answered by Steve, one of the members of BRIG, in the letters columns of the paper.

Barmouth In Bloom

Barmouth In Bloom have finished their improvement of the north and south ends of Jubilee Road and it looks great.  We would like to congratulate them on their wonderful work and wish them all the success with future projects.

The Palm Tree Project

As you might be aware, the Palm Trees on the Promenade there today are visually different from the ones that were first installed.

This is because the original trees that were sent to us were wrong for the following reasons.

1. They were not grown in pots at the beginning and then continued to be grown in pots as they should have been.
2. The soil was not the one promised to us by the co-ordinator of the project and was substandard.
3. Sand was put into the pots by them, but it should not have been.

We felt that, after looking into the process they went through, that they were very unlickly to last the summer let alone a lifetime.

We could not take that risk with the project that they would all die and the supplier would be a long way away with out redress.

We decided to make the change urgently.

We went direct to a supplier in Italy and personally chose the individual Trees that are now along the promenade.  These were then shipped directly to us and we replanted and replaced all 60 of them over a 4 day period.

The supplier of the trees also supplied the plaques.  As you can see they have not lasted any length of time and have faded considerably on a very short time.  We will be doing this in due course.

We were disappointed by the original supplier and everything he did within this project, and it was our choice to make the change and we are all proud that we did.

The trees look amazing along the Promenade and we feel that this has all been worthwhile, if not a lot harder than first thought.

Awards

We are proud to announce that we have been nominated for a Nationwide Community & Heritage Award.

The letter we received says "The awards were established to recognise the efforts of people like you who make a real contribution within their local community."

We were unsuccessful, however it is still nice to be recognised for the hard work we have done so far.

The Bench Project

We are now looking at placing many benches along the promenade between the magnificent Palm Trees we placed there ealier on in the year.  We have yet to finalise the design and type of seating, but will be doing this shortly and hopefully make swift progress.

Like the Palm Trees, we will be putting 60 of them up for sponsorship for businesses or individuals for £500 for 5 years.

Please contact us if you wish to join this project and improve the town.

You can sponsor any one of the benches for a lost loved one, a present loved one, or for businesses.

We would really appreciate your support on this new and exciting project which again will add to the beauty of our town.

The Round House Project

We have done a preliminary plan for this and will be meeting with the relevant people in the forthcoming weeks.  Hopefully we will be able to show everyone the plans after they have been agreed upon, and the work will commence this year sometime.

John from Emily's Ferries has offered to help in the design and the choice of the plants and shrubs etc, and we are most grateful for his kind offer and look forward to working with him on this project.

We have received a quote for the work we want doing but still need 2 more.  If you know anyone who could help, or you can help us yourself, then please contact us soon.

Palm Tree
Project

Please see the Palm tree Project Page for all the news.

The Opening Ceremony went brilliantly and you can read all about it under the section Palm Tree Project.

Dolphin Water Feature

We have been making many collection from the Water Feature and the generocity has been outstanding.

We remind you that we will be making a large donation to Seawatch UK at the end of the year, from the money collected.

So please give generously, and remember;

Make a wish - save a Dolphin.

Other
Projects

During the year we will be working on the other projects in the background, and will keep you up to date as we go along with any progress made.

If you have any ideas please contact us and let us know.

Harbour Development

We were invited by the Welsh Assembly Govenment and their representatives to discuss possible development of the Harbour Area and other places in the town.

Along with just a few groups, consultation has developed and we hope to meet with them further.

We have submitted a first draft and plan of our ideas and we are waiting for a response.

We had a meeting with One Voice Wales to show our plans to local Council's and their representatives on Wednesday 21st May 2008.

It went well and the those present went away with a clear view of our ideas.

There was due to be another meeting with the Welsh Assembly in May, then delayed until June. We have heard nothing from them since.

We hope that this does not mean that the project will be put away again for another 10 years, or that all the hard work will have been in vain

Thank You
